The game is played by two rival players who act in turns: the yellow starts the game, and the green moves second. The main goal of the game is to defeat your opponent either by taking his royal port or by destroying enough of his ships and forts.

The playfield where all the game takes place is otherwise called the map. It is square and divided into an equal number of rows and columns (e.g. 72 rows and 72 columns) which create smaller squares.

For the most part it is covered with water, with some land scattered here and there. There are also some special spots on it like ports guarded by the forts, deadly reefs and the precious royal ports that can quickly decide the fate of the entire game.

Normally, at the beginning of a party every side has 28 ships which totals for 56. All the ships making up both fleets fall into 12 types differing in navigability and firepower.

The ships can move and fire their canons every turn. They can take damage and eventually get destroyed by enemy fire or reefs. They can also be repaired as long as their HP exceeds zero. A ship that has been destroyed leaves the playfield until the end of the game.

Turn structureEdit

Every turn consists of two phases: sailing phase and gunnery phase. They can be repeated in any order as long as the player has ships and (or) forts available to participate in them.

The basic principle is as follows. Every ship can be moved no more than once every turn. Forts, being immobile structures, do not move at all. Moreover, every ship and every fort can participate in gunnery phases as long as it has shots left. For instance, a steam armored battery can fire a shot at the first enemy, then move and, if in suitable position, fire two more shots at another one.
